About Dead to the World

This novel was published on May 4, 2004, and is th e fourth novel in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series. It is shortly after the events of Club Dead and Sopokie has broken up with her boyfriend, Bill Compton, because of his betrayal with Lorena. While he is in Peru, Sookie is headed home from work and sees Eric running for his life with no shirt or shoes on and no memory. Sookie takes him to her house and calls Pam to let her know that she has found Eric in the road. Pam and Chow come to the house and tell Sookie that a group of witches is after Eric and that it would be best if Eric is kept safe at Sookie's house until the witch can be defeated. While Eric is at Sookie's house, their relationship begins to blossom. Eric offers to stay with Sookie forever and to work and help her. Eventually, the witches are defeated, but before Eric is returned to his normal self, Sookie and he encounter Debbie Pelt waiting at Sookie's house with a gun. Eric is shot, and Sookie kills Debbie. Eric disposes of her body and hides her car. Eric's memories of his life prior to being at Sookie's house return, but he has no recollection of their time together.
